Global biopharmaceutical company makes seamless acquisition with DryvIQ’s Office 365 Migration Methodology

Business Drivers

This America global biopharmaceutical company completed an acquisition in the spring of 2020. Upon acquisition, they of course needed to migrate their newly acquired content stored in Box into its existing content environment. Overall, they had to move more than 700 TB of content and 25,000 users into Microsoft SharePoint Online & OneDrive for Business.

The Challenge

No stranger to migrations or acquisitions, this client had used several migration tools in the past – but with less-than-stellar results. Poor migration performance, coupled with inadequate support and services, led them back on the search for a new solution that could deliver a disruption-free transition from Box to OneDrive.

But this time, the pharmaceutical company was in search of a long-term solution: a strong content migration engine with a robust professional services team to become their migration partner for any potential M&A activity in the future.

The Solution

This search for a reliable migration partner for their large-scale Box to OneDrive migration led this client to DryvIQ. The DryvIQ platform’s “Continuous Copy” migration methodology would enable the client to temporarily synchronize the acquired company’s content into their existing Office 365 environment without requiring a hard cutover from Box to OneDrive. This would simplify change management and deliver a more seamless transition for new and existing employees.

Additionally, DryvIQ’s ability to map folder structures, user and group permissions, and internal and external sharing data as well as migrating Box Notes would maintain the fidelity of the content as it was transferred to OneDrive.

Before enlisting DryvIQ for the bulk migration of 700 TBs of content, the client engaged in a small pilot program using a small 5TB sample of content to test not only the software but DryvIQ’s Client Solutions team as well. The client was looking for an “A-Team” of migration experts to lead them in this project.

The DryvIQ team was responsible for providing the infrastructure for the migration, ensuring security measures were correctly implemented, and helping to conduct change management within the organization.

The Results

After achieving success with the pilot, the client executed an agreement for the DryvIQ team to move forward with migrating the remaining 695TB of content and 25,000 users from Box to OneDrive, kicking off what promises to be a long-term partnership between DryvIQ and this client.
